Maintaining Your Weight Goals During the Holidays

As we continue towards the winter holiday season with Thanksgiving in the rearview mirror, you might be thinking about dieting during the holidays. For many Americans, the holiday season, despite all of its fun, can be stressful when it comes to maintaining or losing weight. In fact, one study found that the average adult gains about 1 pound from mid-November to mid-January, making the holiday season one of the biggest contributors to annual weight gain. So, what can you do to keep your weight on track this holiday season?

When later comes and it’s time to eat dinner, there are other tricks you can utilize. For instance, try eating smaller; meaning eating smaller portions off smaller plates with smaller utensils. Think about it: when you’re eating small portions but using a large plate, it can be tempting to take a bit more to fill in that empty space. By using a smaller plate, it will be easier to stick to your portion sizes. Your utensils are important, too; using smaller utensils will force you to take smaller bites, slowing down your eating speed and allowing you to fill up faster.
